# Local license

ACRON is operated with a network license by default. The scope of a license is defined by the number of [License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md) and the number of process variables. The single License Consumers can be used as arbitrary, competing License Consumers from any workstation, can be permanently assigned to a workstation, or can be reserved for REST API data access. License utilization is managed by the active ACRON Database Server.

An overview of the license utilization of the local license can be found under '[Local license information](/acron-9.3/en/ac_admin/lokalelizenz/lizenzuebersicht.md)' at License overview. Also for each network plant, the [license information](/acron-9.3/en/ac_admin/anlagenuebersicht/anlage/dienste_und_anwendungen/lizenzuebersicht_anlage.md) for the associated license can be viewed in ACRON Explorer.

Note

ACRON can still be used with a local license in version 9.3. See [Licensing beginning with 9.3](#lizenzierung_ab_93).

## How is a license charged?

* By '[permanently assigned](#fest_zugewiesene_licenseconsumer) [License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md)':

  Each record under 'permanently assigned License Consumer' immediately charges the license by 1 License Consumer.
* By '[License Consumer reserved for REST API](#restapi)':

  The license is immediately charged with the specified number of License Consumer.
* By the [modules subject to licensing](#module) (Designer, Admin and Starter are not subject to licensing):

  The license is charged dynamically. Depending on whether a module is running or not.

### Load through permanently assigned License Consumer <a href="#fest_zugewiesene_licenseconsumer" id="fest_zugewiesene_licenseconsumer"></a>

[License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md) can be permanently assigned to specific workstations. This ensures that there is guaranteed access to ACRON at these workstations within the scope of user privileges and the scope of the license.

From a workstation with a permanently assigned License Consumer, modules can be opened for any number of plants.

### Load through the ACRON REST API <a href="#restapi" id="restapi"></a>

The [licensing of the REST API](/acron-9.3/en/ac_admin/anlagenuebersicht/anlage/dienste_und_anwendungen/restapi.md#lizenzreservierungen) distinguishes between the two areas configuration and data. In addition, the license type is used for the provision of the functionality: Demo license, Promotional license and Standard license.

The configuration area consists of the plant configuration. This mode is equivalent to the functionality of the designer. There are no restrictions for the configuration - it can be used without a license.

The data area will be initially available from version ACRON 9.4 for process data and compression data and in later versions for all ACRON data. Depending on the license type, there are restrictions that affects the performance.

The number of [License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md) reserved for the REST API are used to establish connections to the ACRON Database Server. The more connections are reserved, the faster the REST API performs. The License Consumers reserved for the REST API are immediately subtracted from the available ACRON clients.

<details>

<summary></summary>

The license includes 5 License Consumer. 2 of these license consumers are reserved for the REST API. As a result, only 3 License Consumers are left.

The number of 'License Consumer reserved for REST API' is allocated individually for each plant.

</details>

### Load due to modules requiring a license <a href="#module" id="module"></a>

The modules requiring a license are combined into one set per PC and plant. Each set charges the license with one [License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md).

Information about active modules can be viewed in the [license overview](/acron-9.3/en/ac_admin/lokalelizenz/lizenzuebersicht.md) for the plant.

#### Modules requiring a license are:

* Alert
* Graph
* Job
* ODBC driver
* OPC UA Server
* Reporter
* Service
* Visual
* Third-party frontends, e.g. JUNE5

<details>

<summary></summary>

![](/files/XeDRQn19Lz9DC4Xo0YrI)

If ACRON Reporter and ACRON Graph both are running on one PC for the same plant ABC, this counts as one set and charges the license with 1 License Consumer.

![](/files/NeBVNP4caFmW2iQ7LzD6)

If the Reporter is running for plant ABC and Graph is running for plant DEF, it counts as 2 sets.

![](/files/049CXX2nCoFEwz2Spc6v)

If Reporter for plant ABC runs on PC 1 and Graph also runs for plant ABC, but on another PC 2, this counts as 2 sets.

![](/files/2ntLWQFJiycJ3Q6zpKzh)

When ACRON is running on a terminal server, server accesses (sessions) are grouped by session ID. Each Session ID represents a separate PC for licensing purposes. If the Reporter for plant ABC runs in a different session than Graph, it is scored the same as if it is running on a different PC. Thus 2 sets are counted here.

If a PC (FQDN) is included in 'permanently assigned License Consumer', the sets are not counted. In this case the license will only be charged with the entry from the 'permanently assigned License Consumer'.

## Licensing beginning with ACRON 9.3. <a href="#lizenzierung_ab_93" id="lizenzierung_ab_93"></a>

Beginning with version 9.3, the network license is the new default type. The license settings are automatically changed to "Acquire license from Database Server" during the update to 9.3. Instead of workstations and users, [License Consumers](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md) are now licensed. The scope of a license is therefore defined by the number of license consumers and the number of process variables.

The single-user and multi-user licenses will be completely discontinued starting with version 9.4, but can still be used transitionally in 9.3. To do this, the license settings must be changed to "Acquire license locally" in ACRON Designer after updating.

## Demoversion <a href="#demoversion" id="demoversion"></a>

ACRON can be used license-free as a demo version for the purpose of validation or demonstration. Freely available in this case are:

* 1 License Consumer for the module use
* 1 License Consumer for data access using the REST API
  * 1 hour for each start
  * 3 starts per day
* Maximum 25 process variables (auto variables and manual variables)
* Maximum 25 actions for service
* Maximum 300 alerts for Alert

## License information <a href="#lizenzinformationen" id="lizenzinformationen"></a>

General information about the license, such as status, license type, license number, version, as well as an overview of all available and currently used [License Consumers](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md), etc.

The 'Export' button can be used to write this license information into a file, to send it to support for analysis purposes, for example.

The following license informations are available in detail:

* License type

  Standard or Promotional Version
* License number

  The license number is used to uniquely identify the software. You will need it, for example, if you want to update to a newer software version or if you want to upgrade the software to provide more license consumers, process variables or additional modules.
* [License Consumer](https://github.com/Dataforum-Software/gitbook/blob/master/acron/9.3/en/admin/glossar/license_consumer.md)

  Number of available License Consumer
* Version

  ACRON version with which the license module can be run.
* Process variables

  This indicates the maximum number of process variables supported by this license.
* Add-on modules

  Add-on modules that can be used, e.g. Service Module & Alert, Mirror, ...
* Elapsed time

  Runtime limitation for the license

Note

* When using a [demo version](#demoversion), no license module is required. The license scope is shown in the [local license information](/acron-9.3/en/ac_admin/lokalelizenz/lizenzuebersicht.md) of the license summary.
* A red font indicates that the corresponding license parameter has been exceeded.
* A gray font indicates that possible add-on modules have not been licensed.
