# Dialog - Filter for groups and variables to import external variables from the control system

Import external variables from the running control system. For this the driver assigned to the Provider must support this function.

Note

Existing external variables are overwritten and/or moved after a prompt.

With the filter, the number of variables to import can be restricted by entering a group name and/or a variable name.

As wildcards asterisks (\*) stands for any number of characters or question marks (?) for exactly one character can be used. Regular expressions as well as AND- or OR-connections are not evaluated at this point.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.videc.de/acron-9.3/en/anlagenkonfiguration/prozessanbindung/dialog_filter-f-gruppen-u-variablen-import-extvar-aus-leitsystem.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
