# DDE Advance for RsView, ...

DDE for Advance is an event-controlled DDE specified by the Rockwell corporation. It has the same properties as FAST-DDE with the addition of diagnostic functionalities. The ACRON Provider is notified not only about every amendment to measured values but also about communication malfunctions to a variable.

#### Background

The measurement data connection and the pulses for the service module are implemented by way of an event-controlled AdvanceDDE interface. Malfunctions and messages cannot be imported. This is also not necessary, as RSView features its own malfunction database.

#### Measurement data

On any change of a measured value, the ACRON Provider is notified and saves the value - and where appropriate the maximum and minimum - cyclically to the ACRON database.

#### Service variables

In the case of external variables for service, the ACRON Provider is notified of any change by RSView and reacts as follows:

If the value changes from ZERO to a different value, ACRON assumes that the unit has been switched on. If the value changes from not equal to ZERO to ZERO, ACRON assumes that the unit has been switched off.

These events are stored in a binary intermediate file in the ACRON alert path and imported from there by the ACRON Reporter or ACRON Data Transfer as required.

Note

To start the RSView DDE server, it must be enabled in the RSView startup dialog.

#### Syntax of external variable

Full name of the RSView variable (e.g. `system\Second`)

## Driver

### Driver file

Display the name of the selected driver and select a driver from the list of installed drivers

### Version

Version of the driver file

### Interface type

Display the driver interface type

### Data transfer type

Description of the data transfer type

## Driver parameters

### Service

`RTData`:

### Topic

Program name of DDE Server without extension

### Topic

Project name: This is the RSView project name with no path or extension (e.g. Samples).

## Settings

### Polling delay after start

Start of data logging in seconds after the ACRON Provider has successfully established process communication. This is useful, for example, if the opposite party takes some time after a restart to initialize all the variables.

Recommended entry: Depending on project load time about 10-20 seconds

### Always display provider window on top

Provider windows are always displayed on top

### Activate test mode

Display a window with diagnostic messages

On startup the ACRON Provider opens a window with diagnostic messages. The log file is stored under the relevant provider name in the ACRON installation path, in the `Log` directory.

Note

As diagnosis mode heavily influences the performance of the application, and the recorded messages can normally only be evaluated by Technical Support, you should only activate it when prompted to do so by Support.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.videc.de/acron-9.3/en/anlagenkonfiguration/prozessanbindung/provider/providerid/treiberauswahl/dde_dynamic-data-exchange/dde_advance_f_rsview.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
