# Sharing User-Defined Objects

If a user has the appropriate rights to share objects, they can share or release objects within their own permission groups. Sharing allows the user to release an object (reference) including its properties (value range, color, display, etc.) to a specific permission group so that it can be analyzed by the corresponding users in that group.

## Sharing a Custom Object

1. Select a custom object in the *Views* view on the left in the object list.
2. Click the *Share* button in the Views view.
3. Select a *Permission Group* in the opened modal window and click *Save*.

## Example of Sharing

* Group *Master* contains Meyer and Weber.
* Meyer has read rights for Temperature1 and Temperature2.
* Weber only has read rights for Temperature2.
* Admin creates an object *Hall1* with the measurements Temperature1 and Temperature2 and shares it with the group *Master*.
* Meyer logs in and gets no error message.
* Weber logs in and gets an error message!
* Meyer removes Temperature1 from the *Hall1* object. However, this doesn't help because he only has *Save As* available! *Save* is not possible!

{% hint style="info" %}

* If an object is shared with a permission group, only the people who belong to this group can access the object.
* When sharing, write and read rights for measurements of an object are not released unless they already exist.
  {% endhint %}
